The Fish We Catch
Salmon
- Chinook - (King/Spring) are the big guys and in the Nanaimo area year round. They really start to show in numbers and size beginning late April following the herring fishery, throughout the summer and into September.
- Coho - (Silvers) more of a summer, fall fishery in the Nanaimo area. They appear in abundance in August into fall.
Captain Pete with a 34 pound Chinook Salmon. Chinook are the king of fish on the West Coast and the fish that make the reels sing "zzzzzzzzzz".
Lingcod
These snake like, big mouthed ferocious predators are a blast to catch. Traditionally found at rocky outcroppings hiding in dens, we love to stop and jig for these amazing creatures. We also find them while trolling for salmon. Probably the best eating fish on the west coast.
Rockfish
A gem to catch and a delight to eat. Watch out, those spikes hurt.
